Summer Institute: The ABCs of Autism: Supporting Academics, Behavior, and Communication

Training Description

This presentation explores the interconnected pillars of Academics, Behavior, and Communication (ABCs) to support individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Participants will gain insights into common challenges and effective strategies for fostering inclusion, enhancing learning outcomes, and addressing behavioral and communication needs. Practical tools and a continuum of supports and technologies that are free and accessible to all educators, families, and students will be shared.


Training Objectives

Participants will develop a foundational understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder, including its impact on academics, behavior, and communication and will acquire practical tools, technologies, and strategies to enhance learning, promote positive behavior, and support communication for individuals with autism.

About the Presenter

Dr. Krystle Merry is a Lecturer at the University of Maine. She is a National Board Certified Teacher Exceptional Needs Specialist, Digital Accessibility Specialist, and educator with over 15 years of inclusive education experience. She has a PhD in Curriculum and Instruction Special Education, Masters in Gifted and Talented, Bachelors in Middle Childhood Education, and Certificates in Autism, Transition, and ESOL.
