ATX People Analytics Meetup: From Jobs to Activities — Rethinking Work in the Age of AI

Is AI changing jobs, or changing what matters inside them? The real story may be in how the work itself is evolving.

Join us on September 17 from 5:00–7:00 PM in Rowing Hall 2.238 for our next ATX People Analytics Meetup, featuring Jin Yan.

AI is not just rewriting which jobs matter; it is rewriting what matters inside jobs. Using Revelio Labs’ activity taxonomy, we examine how work activities are shifting in the labor market, how demand is moving toward more experienced workers and leadership capabilities, and why human-centered skills are becoming increasingly important. The analysis shows that most workforce activity change comes from within-occupation shifts rather than changes in the occupational mix, suggesting that organizations need to look beyond their occupational mix and focus on how jobs can be redesigned at the activity level. We also introduce a framework that combines AI exposure with human-centered capabilities to distinguish where organizations should augment, reskill, redesign, or invest in human capability development. The key takeaway is that AI strategy should not be one-size-fits-all: effective workforce strategies require understanding how work is changing at the activity level and redesigning roles around both technology and human strengths.

Bio: Jin is a Senior Economist at Revelio Labs, where she also leads the client success team. She helps organizations use workforce data to understand labor market dynamics, talent strategy, and how AI is reshaping the content of work. Her work focuses on identifying emerging workforce trends, including shifts in work activities, AI exposure, and human-centered capabilities, and translating complex data into clear, actionable insights for clients navigating workforce challenges. Jin holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Texas at Austin.
