Get ready for a spooktacular cake adventure! In this hands-on class, you’ll create a Halloween-themed cake that’s equal parts creepy and colorful. This design introduces you to isomalt techniques and fondant basics. To add an extra layer of frightful fun, we’ll be working with glow-in-the-dark food colors. A black light will be available for taking pictures at the end of class.
In this class you will learn:
- Isomalt essentials including safety, cooking, coloring, using molds and how to store your completed sugar decorations.
- Fondant fundamentals including rolling, cutting, and applying accents for bold designs.
- Color alternatives using food colors that glow under UV light to make your cake shine in the dark.
Must be at least 18 years old to participate in this class.
We will be working with boiling sugar, so please wear long sleeves, long pants and closed toe shoes. You will be provided with gloves to protect your hands.
This class is for students who have taken the Introduction to Cake Decorating class or who already have a basic knowledge of working with buttercream.

Meet Your Instructor:
Laura Larson is the owner of Laura’s Custom Cakes, a licensed home-based bakery. She decorates cakes and other sweet treats professionally, and is a member of the Fran’s crew. In addition to her passion for turning sugar into art, she loves sharing her excitement with others through teaching. She leads classes for aspiring bakers, corporations, government agencies, and community organizations—helping individuals and groups learn new skills, spark creativity, and connect through the joy of cake decorating. All The Details:
- Skill Level: Intermediate Buttercream / Beginner Isomalt / Beginner Fondant
- All materials and tools are provided for use during class - just bring your creativity!
- Each student will receive a 5” crumb coated cake ready to be decorated.
- All supplies and tools are provided for use during class.
- We will provide a box to take your cake home in
- The class may be a little messy so we recommend bringing an apron.
- If you have long hair, you may want to tie it back.
- Price is per person. A ticket must be purchased for each individual attending the class.
- Class requires a minimum of 4 students and there is a maximum of 8 students. In the event of insufficient enrollment, you will receive a full refund.
- Class will run approximately 3 hours. Please note that the class is hands-on and may run over or under schedule.
Cancellation Policy:
Changes and cancellations...we know life happens so we try our best to be flexible while being fair to our instructors who purchase supplies and bake for each student. Full refunds or credits are available for cancellations made at least 5 days prior to the class. If you need to cancel after 5 days but at least 48 hours in advance, we can offer you a credit for a future class. We cannot offer any credits for cancellations within 48 hours of the scheduled class.
