When Jessica is sent to San Pedro on a journalistic assignment, she finds much more than she bargained for. Traveling through Pedro's rich and colorful past, present and future, Jessica finds a community in the midst of radical change. A romantic comedy with music, PEDRO PLAY explores the meaning of home and features members of the San Pedro community on stage in collaboration with Cornerstone Theater Company.Written by playwright Juliette Carrillo and directed by Cornerstone’s Associate Artistic Director, Bruce Lemon, this production has been designed in collaboration with an award-winning design and production team including Co-Composers David Markowitz and Nehal Shahin, Choreographer Marissa Herrera, Music Director Suzanne Messer, Scenic Designer Christopher Scott Murillo, Costume Designer Jeanette Godoy, Light Designer Wesley Charles Chew, Sound Designer John Nobori and Stage Manager Maria V. Oliveira. This play features the performance talents of Boaz Abel, Andrew Rudy Alvarez, Larry Bates, Rudy Caseres, Taraji Dacosta, Ricky Dhupar, Brian Garcia, Ruth Livier, David Markowitz, Suzanne Messer, Lisa Nygren, Diane Patalano, Nehal Shahin, Morgan Pugh, Winston Rocha, Phone Tha, Bahni Turpin, and Katharine VanDewark.Pedro Play is inspired by dozens of conversations and stories shared with Cornerstone artists over the script’s development.

<blockquote>“When we first began our conversations about doing a project in San Pedro, Angela Romero - a self-proclaimed San Pedro historian - was one of our partners. Unfortunately, I never got to meet Angela, as she died before I began my San Pedro journey. But during the hunting-and-gathering stage of this process, I've listened to her podcasts, read her articles, watched zoom recordings, and spoken to many of her friends. I feel like she's been by my side throughout the writing of this play. This story is (very) loosely inspired by her experience of San Pedro, and contains many lines that she spoke at one time or another. One of her mottos was "Keep San Pedro Cozy" and much of the impetus of this play is based on her wisdom.”</blockquote>
