How old does my baby need to be to attend the event?

Ideally, peanut should be introduced into an infant's diet between 6-12 months of age.

Question 2

My baby has eczema, is it safe to introduce peanut?

Accepted Answer

Eczema is a risk factor for developing peanut allergy and therefore early introduction of peanut into your baby's diet is especially important. Your baby's eczema should be well-controlled on the day of the event. If your baby's eczema is hard to control, make an appointment for personalized care!

My baby has already had an allergic reaction to eggs. Is it safe to introduce peanut?

Egg allergy is a risk factor for developing peanut allergy and therefore early introduction of peanut into your baby's diet is especially important. If you need help with food allergies, make an appointment for personalized care!

Question 4

What should I bring?

Accepted Answer

Please bring a bib, a spoon and bowl your baby is familiar with using, and any personal care items your child needs. We will provide several peanut products to feed your child and medications if needed for a reaction. We have a large play mat and some toys.

Question 5

Do we have to remain at the event for the full 2 hours?

Accepted Answer

The event is designed as a 2-hour event for you and your baby. Most allergic reactions occur within the first 30 minutes after exposure, up to 2 hours. We will share tips on how to recognize and treat reactions, new therapies for food allergies, and answer all your allergy-related questions!

Can we bring siblings?

Accepted Answer

Space is limited and we want you to be able to focus your full attention on your infant, so please arrange to leave older siblings at home.

Question 7

My baby has already been tested for allergies, can Dr. Laubach review the results?

Accepted Answer

Since this is a group activity for healthy infants, specific questions about an individual child would be best answered in a personalized consultation. Please call 858-321-5564 to make an appointment!

Question 8

What will happen if my baby has an allergic reaction to peanut at the event?

Accepted Answer

Allergic reactions will be treated immediately. Most allergic reactions in infants are mild and can be treated with an oral medication such as Zyrtec (cetirizine). Epinephrine will be available to treat more severe reactions. Over 95% of allergic reactions resolve with epinephrine.

Question 9

I think my baby is allergic to peanuts, can we do testing at the event?

Accepted Answer

This event is for healthy babies who have not yet tried peanut. If you think your baby is allergic to peanut, please book a personalized consultation for testing. NO TESTING will be done at the event.
