Peacemaking Circles

The North Carolina Peace Resource Center (NCPRC) is a non-denominational group grounded in the historic Quaker Peace Testimony seeking to reduce human suffering in any form, be it war;diversion of resources from social benefit for the preparation of war; social injustice; poverty; slavery; unfair compensation for services rendered; and legal injustice. It further opposes discrimination in any form, including but not limited to race, gender, age, nationality, sexual orientation, or religion.

What:
We will be gathering together to learn about the fundamental principles and practices for engaging in Peacemaking Circle process. Peacemaking Circles (or Council) is a process grounded in indigenous practices, but is something that all our ancestors used in dealing with issues and conflicts in communities. Peacemaking Circles is rooted in the principles of Restorative Justice and has been used successfully in schools, communities and prison systems to address harms in the community, work towards reconciliation, regain trust, and help communities strengthen relationships. This will be an experiential training where we will be engaging in a Peacemaking Circle to learn the fundamental skills, theories and philosophy behind the Circle process. Please bring a small item that is important or “sacred” to you personally and that you feel comfortable sharing with the community about this item.
Who:
This workshop is for anyone who is interested in peacemaking. It is appropriate for teachers, counselors, social workers, law enforcement officers, and any individual who is passionate about creating a peaceful, family, neighborhood, organization, community, and world. Sponsored by the NC Peace Resource Center.
Trainers:
Daniel Rhodes, PhD, LCSW
Daniel is the Director of the Undergraduate program in Social Work at UNC-Greensboro and has been conducting Peacemaking Circles in both the classroom and community organizations for the past several years.
Jeremy Rinker, PhD
Jeremy is the Director of the undergraduate program in Peace & Conflict Studies at UNC-Greensboro and has also been conducting Peacemaking Circles in both the classroom and community organizations.
Jeremy and Daniel have known each other and worked together for close to ten years and engage in restorative justice process with community organizations in the area.
Cost: 
$10 (includes lunch, snacks, and a copy of The Little Book of Circle Process.) Scholarships are available!
