About this event

  • 3 hours

These workshops will be led by PCC faculty and student mentors dedicated to providing you with an enriching experience.

Join us at PCC to fly a drone and get hands-on experience with diverse minerals and the paints that can be made from them! You will learn about Geographic Information System (GIS) approaches and the broad applications of this powerful methodology. You will examine minerals and rocks under the microscope and explore their diagnostic characteristics. You will gain experience in processing some sedimentary minerals to produce paints of various colors, and you will use natural earth paints to color in geologic diagrams that depict the ancient history of proto-North America when oceans covered much of the continent. [note: this activity is similar to the Fall 2023 Geoscience STEM Saturday event]

This FREE EVENT is for high school students (one parent/guardian per student is welcome to join). There is no cost to attend but space is limited - register early! Register for as many Saturdays as you’d like.

The event begins at 9am and ends at noon. Pasadena City College COVID guidelines will be enforced during the event. Click here for current COVID guidelines.

An official registration packet will be sent a week prior to each STEM Saturday event via email.
