Camping and cabins at this popular state park sell out quickly and are currently on sale. We recommend you get a reservation as soon as possible. See details below.

Dosewallips State Park, only 60 miles north of Olympia, is the eastern gateway to the Olympic Peninsula. The region is made up of forests, mountains, rivers, beaches and deltas – and surrounded by sound and sea. This freshwater/saltwater park makes a perfect place for painting plein air.

The park's moss-carpeted forest and glacial river slope down to a shell-strewn delta on Hood Canal, a delight for clam-diggers, anglers, boaters, birders and beach explorers. The park features riverside campsites, cabins and five-person platform tents.

Dosewallips State Park is a 1,064-acre, year-round camping park with 5 miles of shoreline on Hood Canal and the Dosewallips River. All camp areas are grassy and located in scenic, rustic settings.

It is 45 minutes from Port Townsend to explore the historic forts and charming small towns along the way after the paint out.

Meeting location: Meet at the wooden Observation Deck at Dosewallips Beach at 10AM. Note this is on the opposite(NE) side of the river to the campground and main part of the state park. There is a map below showing the location of the Observation Deck.

Parking is at the area maked Dosewalip beach. If you are not staying at the campground a Discover pass is required.

Directions - from various possible routes:

The beach trail head is located just outside the Dosewallips State Park on the east side of Hwy 101. Coming from Quilcene traveling southbound, the trailhead entrance is on the left just a tenth of a mile before you cross the Dosewallips bridge. Coming from the Hoodsport area northbound, cross the bridge, and the trailhead entrance is on the right after a tenth of a mile.

Lunch plans: We will meet for lunch at this same location on the large wood structure at noon. Bring a sack lunch.

End of day plan: Show and share work on large wood structure at 3:30PM.

Recommended Lodging/camping:

Camping and cabins book up early so don't delay to book them. Otherwise you'll be looking for cancellations to appear. We recomend you arrive on the 17th, in order to get 2 full days painting in.

There is a campground at Dosewallips State Park, which has tent sites and cabins Website:https://washington.goingtocamp.com.

Other cabins/campsites can be found by searching near Brinnon on https://www.recreation.gov/

Motels are near by in Brinnon, and around Brinnon. Port Townsend is 45 mins from Brinnon for more charming places to stay.

FAQs:

Is there water, bathrooms, shelter available? There are bathrooms close by.

Is there cell coverage at the location? Yes.

Other notes: A Discover Pass is needed for day use of the State Park. The daily pass is included in camping reservations at Dosewallips State Park. Bring an Oyster shucking knife if you want to get oysters off the beach at low tide.
