About this Event

Pennsylvania-born and Nashville-based singer, songwriter, and celebrated guitarist Patrick Droney combines handmade pop songcraft and musical virtuosity through a 21st century prism of playlist-hopping ambition. He dubs his style “New Classic,” and he backs it all up with show-stopping chops and a penchant for timeless presentation. Droney was just five years old when picked up a guitar for the first time, and he recalls immediately falling in love with it. This obsession saw him receive the “Next Generation Award” from the Robert Johnson Foundation at just aged twelve, and catapulted him into a life on the road, performing with the likes of James Brown, B.B. King, Elvis Costello and the Experience Hendrix Tour.

While attending the prestigious Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music at NYU, he caught the attention of Rondor Music in Los Angeles and signed his first publishing deal. He spent two years on the west coast honing his songwriting craft and discovering the artist behind the guitar, unveiling a “vocal delivery that shoots so straight you’d be crazy to doubt his authenticity” (The Shotgun Seat). The desire to dig deeper into the song then led him to Nashville, where he began to assemble his self-titled independent debut EP, Patrick Droney. Released towards the end of 2018, it has already clocked upwards of 10 million cumulative streams with “High Hope” surpassing the 3 million-mark on Spotify. Likewise, he donned a classy suit and shut down Late Night with Seth Meyers with an incendiary performance of the single “Stand and Deliver.”

“If you don’t know where you come from or who came before you, you’ll never be able to properly appreciate the opportunity to do what you do in the era you do it.” Explains Patrick “I carry a deep reverence for those who came before me. The term “new classic” is something I strive for...there are some things that will never go out of style; a moving lyric, a captivating melody, tangible soul... I feel as though it’s my responsibility to take those influences and adapt them to my time and space.”

Patrick’s “new classic” really revs to life on his forthcoming release —out in 2020 via Warner Bros. Records.
