The Chicago Writers Association is a federally-registered 501(c)(3) voluntary, not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting the 4 Cs of writing: creativity, commerce, craft and community. CWA strives to:- Foster a visible, supportive writing community;- Provide genuine, constructive feedback and access to resources;- Assist writers at all levels achieve their writing goals;- Build a bridge to unite all facets of Chicago's diverse literary culture;- Promote Chicago as a place of literary distinction.CWA members are both professional published authors and those committed to joining their ranks. We span many genres and styles. We are a welcoming community of those for whom written expression is an integral part of their lives.

The Chicago Writers Association, in partnership with the Creative Writing Department at Columbia College, presents its inaugural education/networking event: Path to Publication. A panel of five fiction and nonfiction authors will share their journeys to becoming published via both traditional and self-publishing routes. The FREE event will feature a panel discussion from 9:30 am to 11:30 am followed by an hour of mingling. Light snacks will be served.

Her fast-paced crime fiction spans 13 novels and over 20 short stories, and she has also edited a popular crime fiction anthology called Chicago Blues.
Renee James - Self-Published to Traditionally Published Fiction
<A HREF="https://www.reneejames-author.com/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Renee James</A> is author of the Bobbi Logan crime series. Her first novel, Coming Out Can Be Murder, was the 2012 Chicago Writers Association Indie book of the year and a bronze medalist in ForeWord Reviews' LGBT book of the year competition. Coming Out Can Be Murder was republished in March, 2014 by Magnus/Riverdale Books as Transition to Murder. It is the basis for the sequel, A Kind of Justice, released in 2016 from Oceanview Publishing.

Victoria Noe - Self-Published Nonfiction
<A HREF="http://www.victorianoe.com/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Victoria Noe</A> is the author of the Friend Grief series featuring the titles: Friend Grief and Anger: When Your Friend Dies and No One Gives A Damn; Friend Grief and AIDS: Thirty Years of Burying Our Friends and Friend Grief and 9/11: The Forgotten Mourners were published in 2013. Friend Grief and the Military: Band of Friends (Honorable Mention, Chicago Writers Association 2014 Book of the Year), was published in May, 2014. Friend Grief in the Workplace: More Than an Empty Cubicle was published in July, 2015 and the final book in the series, Friend Grief and Men: Defying Stereotypes, was released June 1, 2016.
Shawn Shiflett - Traditionally Published Fiction
<A HREF="https://www.shawnshiflett.com/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Shawn Shiflett</A>'s debut novel Hidden Place has received rave reviews from newspapers, literary trade publications, and Connie Martinson Talks Books. He received an Illinois Arts Council Fellowship for his work and was a three-time Finalist for the James novel-in-progress contest, sponsored by the Heekin Group Foundation. Excerpts from Shiflett’s novels and short stories can be found in Hypertext Magazine, various issues of F Magazine, and other literary journals. Currently, he is an Associate Professor at Columbia College Chicago.
