About this event

Join me, Pat McGee in the beautiful Outer Banks of North Carolina for 4 days & 4 nights at my boutique music getaway, Down The Hatch.

This is the 14th year for DTH and after the delicious lemonade we all collectively made out of the weather lemons Mother Nature dropped on us in ’23, I just know we’re in for the best DTH ever. Cheers to being back on the beach, under the sunny skies, our toes in the sand, diving in the cool ocean, feelin’ the warm evening breezes, it’s all coming back in ’24 my friends.

Destination Perfection!

If you are new to Down The Hatch, yes, we refer to it as "DTH", here’s a little background on why I decided to create such a boutique event.

Anyone who knows me, is well aware of my passion for sharing anything and everything that I love. Humbly, I would say I also have a knack for putting people together that I know will create authentic and inspiring moments that can only happen at DTH. This extends far beyond just musicians. When the right people get to know one another with shared affections, I truly believe, and have seen all kinds of magic happen.

DTH’s mission is to give artists that I find to be truly amazing, an uninterrupted platform to do what they do so uniquely well, to new ears, eyes and hearts. No artists performs the same time as anyone else’s set. So your job as the attendee, is just to sit back in your beach chair, crack a cold one, enjoy the tunes, feel the ocean breezes & sunny rays and… exhale.

Oh and at night, kick up your heels (or toss your flip flops in the corner) in the ballroom for the full band rock shows, theme nights and the never-fail best-time-ever…Headphone Disco with artist guest DJ’s.

Take morning strolls on the beach or join us at our fast growing wellness portion of DTH: the workouts, mediations and yoga that is offered before the start of each day. Or simply sleep the morning away. Life is grand at DTH.

Perhaps what I am most proud of, and an unexpected bonus of DTH is the community that formed organically. Friends come back each year and reunite in OBX for something that is just too magical to explain. These attendess are some of the most welcoming and caring individuals I have ever performed for.

In recent years, we are seeing couples bringing their kids, which is a beautiful thing. Last DTH during Headphone Disco I had a mean air guitar duel with one kiddo who crushed me.(#McDonald/McGeeRematch2024). I awarded him with my silver necklace. He deserved it. ;

My DTH team and I have created a chill environment where musicians and Hatchers simply hang out together on the beach and throughout the hotel for the duration of DTH.

I’ve been saying it for years: There simply is nothing like Down The Hatch. Year after year, I strive to bring you the joy of discovery and make your time in Kill Devil Hills, NC as laid back as possible. We keep it intimate, having less than 300 folks (including all the artists and staff), so you’ll be on a first-name basis with nearly everyone by the time you leave.

------------

For 14 years now I have been looking to bring in something/someone special to partner with the unique family that is the DTH community. After performing for The Life Ring Foundation’s event in Roanoke, VA this past summer, the answer was clear. They are moving mountains every day to fight kids’ cancer. Me being a father of 4 children, I can only imagine the hardships that families go through when facing a diagnosis such as cancer in their young children, not to mention the grueling treatment journey that is severely underfunded in the U.S. & around the world.

The Life Ring Foundation is dedicated, I’ve witnessed this firsthand, to building a new, world class treatment center in Roanoke, VA so that families locally, in addition to Southwest Virginia areas, far and wide, can get the care they so desperately need right in their community. Right now, children diagnosed with cancer do not have the resources, treatment, and weapons they need to win the war, and The Life Ring Foundation’s Fighting Kids Cancer campaign has a goal to change that narrative. I was incredibly moved by their dedication, so, with your help, I am very proud to be donating $25 of every ticket sold at DTH to their cause.

As an official Life Ring Foundation Ambassador, I hope you will join me in learning more about them and helping in any additional way you can. (GO TO: https://liferingfoundation.org and give if you can (You can join in me as a “Fighting Kids Cancer Club member”, spread the word throughout the year, and follow them on their social platforms!)

Expect to hear a whole lot more about the good we are collectively doing with this amazing foundation. And we hope to see some Life Ring folks at DTH!

Cheers to the kids!

In addition to veteran artists, I am keeping my commitment to bring in fresh talent who have rocked my world over the years. I have a personal connection to each artist that attends the event, which makes it all the more special.

New artists you’ll see this year: Will Hoge, Jackopierce, Michael Glabicki of Rusted Root with Dirk Miller, Steve Poltz, Meaghan Farrell, Sirsy and Anna Daley Young! As your host, I bring my full lineup of Pat McGee Band to join other veterans: Adam Ezra Group, Dan Bern, Reeve Coobs, Jason Adamo, Todd Carey, Steve Everett, Ruby Mac and Carrie Brockwell!! And if you know me, I’ll be inviting more friends to join in the fun!

NOTEABLE NEWBIES…(you already know how much I adore the DTH Veteran artists and what they bring to OBX on and off stage)

Jackopierce (Jack and Cary) and I go waaaay back to before PMB existed when I was playing bars in Georgetown with my brother and always super impressed by their “professional” touring posters hanging on the walls. They hail from TX, and I bought their Bringing on The Weather CD at my local raced store all because I liked the cover. I went on to adore their early catalog, and they still are cranking out fantastic music. We have MUCH history together and many shared fans…I’m honored they are finally coming to DTH!

Will Hoge, I believe I first met on one of PMB’s early adventures on The Rock Boat. This is a man who sticks to his guns. His show is ruthless, raw, emotional, honest and authentic as all hell. He ain’t messin’ around. His album, Blackbird On a Lonely Wire is in my top 10 “Indi” albums or all time. Absolute perfection. And if you have a daughter or are a daughter of a great parent…cue up “Baby Girl”. Tito, gimme a tissue. I cannot wait to hear Will do his thing and to hopefully join him for a few in the ballroom! Rock factor, 11.

Michael Glabicki from Rusted Root. Man o man. I’m psyched to have these jam legends at DTH. He and Dirk make some serious beautiful music together and I know when we join them in the ballroom for the big RR hits, the roof is gonna blow off. Funny story, after we had the honor of opening for Rusted Root for a handful of shows in the ’90’s, we dropped that name to anyone and everyone who would listen to us. Even the cop in Colorado who busted our late night hotel party. The officer asked us, “who the hell do you think you are?” (late night we had a ton of people at a closed hotel pool like a bunch of dumb dumbs). Our answer was, “well sir, we play with bands like Rusted Root”, so therefor this after hours party should be just fine…NOPE. Shut r down son. Now. So going forward, still to this day, when someone asks us or any of our PMB crew guys, “who are you guys?” They say, “well, we play with bands like Rusted Root”. And that’s no lie!

Steve Poltz, is an artist that I cannot wait to see shine at DTH. We recently connected through mutual friends and hit it off like old pals. We both can’t figure out how we don’t know one another better after all these years. After confirming Steve, I feel like the kid that brought the biggest, most ridiculously awesome, slightly illegal firework to a 4th of July party and I’m gonna whip this thing out and fire it up for all to enjoy. I have played many a festival with Steve but admittedly always missed his sets for one reason or another. I cannot find a human in the music biz that doest love and adore this man and all he does on and off stage. Steve, I’ll be in the front row, don’t go easy on em.

Meaghan Farrell and I first met at DTH when she rolled into town with our bud, Amy Gerhartz. Meaghan was a damn firecracker (her and Steve might not be able to be on stage together for our own safety). We have also shared many a bill over the years on the singer-songwriter circuits. She is a fabulously upbeat human and brings all heart to the stage. We are so stoked to have her at DTH 2024.

Anna Daley Young, hails from Boston, MA. She is an incredibly gifted young artist with talent for days. I know Anna will absolutely LOVE the vibe DTH and come away with a ton of new friends and fans. I was at an open mic in Warren, RI and heard her sing for the first time, and I was hooked. Hence why I’m dragging her all the way down to OBX!

Sirsy, I have to thank Adam Ezra for introducing me to these two powerhouse rockers at AEG’s Ramble up in Massachusetts. They are a force of nature and I know will wow ya’ll. They are never not on tour, so wherever you call home, you now have a new act to go see on repeat. I can’t wait for them to experience the love that is DTH.

Another awesome aspect of DTH is that we offer a guitar playing/songwriting masterclass/jam session one morning in the ballroom. It's always an inspiring time and a cool way to bond with an artist or ask them anything and everything about the how to's of music. Steve and Dan have already expressed interest in helping host this. Bring your guitars, your notepads, your ukulele, your bongo, your kazoo, whatever. Learn something, share something.

I personally want to thank Florida Safety Systems and our friends at Big Dawgs Music for their support of Down The Hatch. They are helping keep the DTH cars on the track and running at high speeds of inspiration and execution. This year is going to be extra special because of support like this. Much love.

THEME NIGHT: Last years Elton John theme night is going to be hard to beat, but we'll find a way...you guys always do! Look for a fun announcement on the DTH Family Facebook page about that soon! And if you are not on Facebook, (I'm jealous!) I will also be sending that info to all ticket holders.

THEME UPDATE: WOODSTOCK! Rock your grooviest threads or just wear a muddy blanket and a shoulder dove, you're call...but 3 days of peace, love and music is pretty spot on and we'll do our best to keep this heartfelt mantra on Saturday night of DTH. Also...we are putting together a morning Jimmy Buffett beach set...so pack a few Parrothead options and crack a mornin' beer or Margarita, details on this one soon--bring your sing-a-long voices.

CHECK OUT THIS COOL ADD ON: (separate ticket)

Pat’s DTH Sunday "Wine" Down.

This past DTH, on Sunday, after surveying the post show Elton John tribute night carnage (feathers from boas and oversized sunglasses pieces strewn about the ballroom), I hosted 30 DTHer’s to the first annual WINE DOWN for an all day hang. It was just so much fun to put together and I would love to do it again!

Last DTH Wine Down, it was so much fun to just relax with friends, new and old, play an impromptu set of live music, spin some tunes, stare out at the OBX Sound. To close out the day, we had a roundtable discussion about all the DTH ongoings. We also played corn hole, took a fantastic stroll of Jockey’s Ridge State Park and learned a whole lot.

I thoroughly enjoyed this time spent with you guys and look forward to improving on this experience for 2024. This is my way of bringing in a little of the Ocean State Of Mind boutique VIP vibe to DTH. I can'wait to dream up something fun for you guys in 2024.

For those who didn't come last year, here is how it shook down and you can expect a similiar level of bougieness next year....

Sunday, I went to Harris Teeter and bought allllllllll kinds of delectable culinary items, libations, decorations, flowers and attempted to recreate what I would do for any guest of my home. Spoil them. Not even my bank believed this level of out of state excess spending, as they shut me down at Teeter when my bill reached near triple digits. haha. Crisis adverted.

I hope my DTH staff forgives me for goin’ all Gordan Ramsey on them (jk, I was nice as pie). They were very helpful and took instruction perfectly, it was a scene out of Amazing Race meets any show on Food Network. I was quite proud of what we pulled off in very little time. I also thank Pigman’s for serving up an extra delicious and authentic BBQ feast!

Included in your ticket is full concierge level Pat McGee hang, you can expect me to ask you what your favorites libation is and if you have any dietary restrictions or if you just want me to play a deep cut PMB song table side for you and your friends. I’m just spittballin here, but I think we need a masseuse next year. I’ll look into that ;)

Steve Everrett has wicked strong hands, just sayin ;)
