Come celebrate the launch of Issue 4 of Passing Pattern — In the Shadow of the World Cup.
1994 changed everything. The World Cup came to the United States, and a generation of fans, players, and communities were shaped by what followed. But the shadow it cast stretched far beyond American soil — into kit rooms in Lagos, design studios in London, the islands of Cape Verde, and neighborhoods that had been playing the game long before the cameras arrived.
We talk to the designer behind one of the most debated tournament logos in recent memory. We trace what a national football kit carries — identity, politics, pride, and contradiction — through the history of the Nigerian eagle. And we ask, across all of it: what has football become, and who gets to say?
The World Cup is back on American soil. Thirty years on, the questions are bigger than the trophy.
What to expect:
Writer Panel -> Sit in on a conversation with the Passing Pattern team about the issue, the process, and the game. We'll be getting into the stories behind the work and what football means right now. Have a topic you want us to cover? Leave a note in the form below.
Custom Shirts with Crossbar Syndicate -> @crossbarsyndicate will be on site making custom football shirts. Bring a shirt from home to customize, or pick one up at the Soccer House shop on the night.
This is a gathering for the football community. Come through, bring your people, and let's send Issue 4 into the world right.
If you’d like to get involved or have any questions, DM us @passingpattern or email passingpattern@gmail.com. More details to come in the weeks ahead.
Hope to see you there.
