Founded in October 2009, Greenlight Bookstore is a general independent bookstore in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, which hosts literary events in-store and with partner venues. IN-STORE: Tuesday, January 16, 7:30 PM Paperback launch: John Hendrickson presents Life on Delay: Making Peace with a Stutter In conversation with interviewer TBA Wine reception to follow In the fall of 2019, John Hendrickson wrote a groundbreaking story for The Atlantic about Joe Biden’s decades-long journey with stuttering, as well as his own. As the story went viral, he was forced to publicly confront an element of himself that still caused him great pain. Now, in his memoir Life on Delay, Hendrickson writes candidly about bullying, substance abuse, depression, isolation, and other issues he and stutterers like him face daily. Along the way, Hendrickson guides us through the evolution of speech therapy, the burgeoning self-help movement within the stuttering community, and portraits of fellow stutterers who have changed his life. Greenlight neighbor Hendrickson takes the stage to discuss his soulful narrative about the process of making peace with our past and present selves, followed by a wine reception to celebrate the launch of the paperback edition of Life on Delay.
