Description

Join us in experiencing the inspiring promise of Trauma-Informed Communities through the free screening of the documentary film, Paper Tigers, presented by The Guidance Center, on Wednesday, Oct. 12 at 7 p.m.

The film follows six students over the course of a school year in Walla Walla, Washington as Lincoln High School’s staff try a new approach to discipline: one based on understanding and treatment rather than judgment and suspension. Paper Tigers is a testament to what the latest developmental science is showing - that just one caring adult can help break the cycle of adversity in a young person’s life.

Together with Long Beach Unified School District (LBUSD), The Guidance Center recently launched a similar pilot program called It’s About T.I.M.E. (Trauma-Informed Movement in Education) at Beach High School this year. The community plays a critical part in the success of the program, which is why we’d love for you to join us for this special screening.

The screening will begin with a brief message from Steve Graner, M.S., Neurosequential Model in Education Project Director for The ChildTrauma Academy. Led by Senior Fellow Dr. Bruce D. Perry, The ChildTrauma Academy has developed The Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics and The Neurosequential Model of Education as developmentally informed, biologically respectful approaches to caregiving, education, and therapeutic work with children and families.

The film is directed and produced by James Redford with executive producer Karen Pritzker through KPJR Films, LLC. The film premiered on May 28, 2015 at the Seattle International Film Festival.
