Kilkenny Nerd Club and Ossory Youth present two workshops under one roof, exploring the creative aspect of tabletop games and the pieces we use to play them. Both workshops will run concurrently from 11am to 1pm, and again from 2pm to 4pm, allowing participants to attend both if they wish.

Miniature Painting with Juan Hidalgo

Miniature painting is a rewarding hobby that has so much to offer a young artist. You may be painting pieces for your favourite tabletop games like Warhammer or D&D, expressing yourself with the highest standard you can manage for world-wide competitions, or getting creative with a community or supportive artists who just love to share in the joy of your creations. Ossory Youth and Kilkenny Nerd Club have come together to provide an introduction to this fantastic hobby for all skill levels, whether you’re a young pro or a complete stranger to the brush.

This workshop will be run by Juan Hidalgo, a world renowned miniature painter. Juan has been running his YouTube channel for over 6 years and has amassed more than 120,000 Subscribers and millions of views across all of his videos. He covers a wide range of styles, techniques and topics relating to miniature painting, primarily aimed at newer painters. This workshop will cover the basics involved with painting miniatures and you will leave the workshop a more confident and competent painter who can get your game pieces painted up or simply enjoy the process of bringing the model to life before your eyes!

Tabletop Game Design with Patrick McGlynn

What makes a game GO?

Is it dice? Cards? Boards? Miniatures? Chaos? Order? Strategy? Surprise? Wizards? Seagulls?

We'll be combining ALL OF THE ABOVE - with large scoops of imagination, fun, and curiosity - as we experiment with unusual game mechanics, make/break rules, and even create some games of our own...

This workshop will be run by Patrick McGlynn. Patrick is an award winning game designer and artist who specialises in playful and imaginative work. A lifelong gaming enthusiast, Patrick has a PhD in Interaction Design and has created interactive pieces for festivals such as Electric Picnic, Rewire, Big Bang, New Interfaces for Musical Expression, Carlow Arts, Kilkenny Arts, Dublin Fringe, Bram Stoker Festival, and many more. His card game Deckula! has won several awards and is currently at the top of the bestsellers list on DriveThruCards.

Both workshops are free to attend but booking is required. All equipment will be provided. Ages 13-17.
