Leave your creative mark in the iconic Roosevelt Row Arts District! All are welcome to grab a brush and paint alongside Phoenix artist Kayla Newnam as she completes a mural covering an entire parking garage! MEET: On the north side of the parking garage, there is a surface parking lot that we meet. Park in this lot or there is a light rail stop very close at Central and Roosevelt Street.PROVIDED: Paint, Paintbrushes, refreshments, popcicles, water toys and music.BRING: Hat, Sunscreen, Sunglasses and Wear clothes that can get paint and water on them.WHAT TO EXPECT: grab a brush and start painting! There will be refreshments, popsicles, fresh tunes and when you get hot grab a water toy and cool down.ABOUT THE MURAL: The intention behind the 1001 Garage Mural project is to break up the monotony of a typical parking garage by adding a sense of fun that matches what this neighborhood is all about. Bringing an explosion of colors and patterns as they support a playful peacock centerpiece. The use of a colorful bird is meant to represent one of many voices in this “Bird City.” The peacock itself represents the ability to show your true colors while accepting chaos and embracing the vulnerability it takes to make sense of it all. The mural as a whole is meant to bring joy and inspire that new pep in your step as you conquer the rest of the day with positivity.
