Event description
This year, the symposium will highlight the latest developments in the field of small molecules.

About this Event

Two international key notes, Hana Algül from the Klinikum rechts der Isar der Technischen Universität München and Stefano Piccolo from the University of Padova, Italy, will present their work. Further experts from industry and academia will present their current projects and challenges.

A poster session in the afternoon break and a get-together in the evening will provide plenty of time for networking.

Background

Hana Algül is Professor at Klinikum rechts der Isar der Technischen Universität München (Mildred-Scheel-Professur). His research group focuses on translational research in the areas of inflammatory and malignant diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. One of the key research aspects is the metabolism in pancreatic cancer. Changes in metabolism, such as obesity or diabetes mellitus, are considered important risk factors for the development of pancreatic cancer (PDAC). How autophagy and macropinocytosis influence cachexia is being thoroughly evaluated through mouse models of PDAC.

Stefano Piccolo is Professor of Molecular Biology at the University of Padova Medical School. Stefano Piccolo’s Lab studies how cells sense their environment and use this information to build and maintain tissues with specific form, size and function. They are also interested in how disruption of these homeostatic mechanisms leads to tumor formation, progression and metastasis. Their work is mainly centered on the biology of YAP/TAZ, two closely related transcriptional regulators playing essential functions in tissue regeneration and cancer.

The meeting is organized by the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine in the Helmholtz-Association, the Leibniz-Forschungsinstitut für Molekulare Pharmakologie, Campus Berlin-Buch GmbH, and is supported by Berlin Partner for Business and Technology GmbH.
