Overview

We will be exploring the process of giving voice to our Inner Playful Child and how this “part” is active in our Play Therapy practices.

In this experiential play therapy workshop, participants will explore the process of giving voice to their "Inner Playful Child" and discover how this vital “part” is active and influential in their play therapy practice. Using SoulCollage®, a creative and expressive process rooted in Jungian play therapy theory, participants will engage in image-based exploration to deepen self-awareness and enhance their therapeutic presence in the playroom. The Therapeutic Powers of Play (Drewes & Schaefer, 2014) are inherently woven throughout this creative process, supporting core principles of child-centered, experiential, and jungian play therapy approaches. This two-hour workshop invites play therapists to access their inner resources, imagination, and wisdom to strengthen their clinical skills, deepen their connection to clients, and expand their integration of expressive modalities within their play therapy work.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Use one or more images to represent themselves within the context of their play therapist identity and play therapy theoretical orientation.
  2. Engage in the SoulCollage® “I am one who…” exercise to describe an aspect of their personality or Inner Playful Child that supports their role as a play therapist.
  3. Identify and articulate how the Therapeutic Powers of Play are accessed and expressed through the SoulCollage® process within play therapy practice.
  4. Describe the history, theory, and application of SoulCollage® and explain its relevance to play therapy models, techniques, and supervision.
  5. Reflect on the connection between personal symbolic expression and its influence on attunement, creativity, and presence to enhance the therapeutic relationship in play therapy sessions.
