Overflow After Dark was birthed out of the vision to provide local artists and entrepreneurs with a professional platform to showcase their work. Overflow After Dark is an interactive music experience fusing the heart of blues, soul, and jazz from generations past to the present. Overflow After Dark will be hosted at Overflow Coffee—the former home of Vee-Jay Records. Overflow’s April 30th event will feature sets performed by present-day Chicago-based vocalist Morgan Pirtle (accompanied by guitarist Aaron Day and bassist Jackson Kidder), and Chicago music fixture, SamThousand (formerly known as Sam Trump). <a href="https://linktr.ee/morganturtle" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Morgan Pirtle</a> is a versatile vocalist, composer, and educator in Chicago. She blends jazz and contemporary influences to create ethereal and impactful soundscapes within her original music. In the word of Ryan Rosenberger, “Pirtle is a storyteller through song. Her lyrics are conceptual and introspective, with each song of hers serving as a tightly-woven meditation on a certain aspect of herself.” Morgan is a Luminarts Fellow in Jazz and recognized as an Outstanding UndergraduateVocalist in the 2018 DownBeat Student Music Awards. Her debut EP “Muse” was released on April 18th, 2019. It is available on all streaming platforms. Her most recent single, "Lost in a World" was released on November 5th, 2021. <a href="https://linktr.ee/aarondaymusic" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Aaron Day</a> is a Chicago-based guitarist, composer, producer, arranger, and bandleader. He possesses a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies with a Minor in Music Composition from Roosevelt University’s Chicago College of Performing Arts (CCPA). Since moving to Chicago in 2012, Aaron has performed and collaborated with many musicians throughout the Chicagoland area in live music venues as well as in various studio settings. He frequently plays with artists Morgan Pirtle, Shantina Lynet, Vibe Music Live, Aaron Day Organ Trio, and The Jones Collective. As a producer/arranger/composer/ collaborator, he has released music with Morgan Pirtle (Muse EP), Shantina Lynet (Time Lost, SexC), Jimmie "JJ" Jeter &amp; Gabriella Sorrentino (It’s Beautiful (Elena’s Song)), J. Hasan (No Vacancy), Astro Samurai (Rover, EP), Dino 7K &amp; Lomo (Take a Leap) among others. As a working artist, he enjoys the many opportunities and challenges that arise and is always looking to create new dialogue through music.Originally from St. Paul, MN, <a href="https://linktr.ee/jacksonjkidder" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Jackson Kidder</a> grew up playing music in church, accompanying his father. Since moving to Chicago In 2011, Jackson has been an active member of the music scene and can be found on numerous recordings with local artists such as Bassel &amp; the Supernaturals, New Context, Morgan Pirtle, and more. Though a bassist by trade (BM DePaul 2015), Jackson has always been a songwriter and singer at heart. As a frontman, he has played venues throughout Chicago such as Chop Shop, Cole's Bar, and others. Debut Album 'Standing By' released March 25th, 2022! <a href="https://linktr.ee/samthousand" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Sam Thousand </a>(formally known as Sam Trump) is a multi-instrumentalist, singer/writer/producer/composer, and a 3Arts Recipient with 15+ years of experience in live performance art, curation, and self-management. Since picking up the trumpet at age 7, his artistry has allowed him the opportunity to perform in all corners of North America as well as overseas. Sam Thousand has become a fixture in Chicago’s music scene through various stages from the Pritzker Pavilion at Millennium Park to a cozy nook in a low-lit speakeasy in Fulton Market. He has maintained years of performance residencies and has curated special events from tributes to artist showcases. In addition to performing and curating, he has served as a booking manager to facilitate performance opportunities for other musicians. Sam Thousand is co-founder of multiple Chicago-based organizations and is a business owner and entrepreneur.
