Aquilon Music Festival brings young opera singers from around the globe to the heart of the Willamette Valley. Based on the campus of Linfield College, it is an intensive program dedicated to teaching and performing unknown and rarely-heard vocal repertoire.

OURLAND: A Dystopian State is a new opera recently composed by Paul Davies with a libretto by Daniel Helfgot. Ourland is an imaginary country where many of today's societies can easily find themselves reflected. Following in the long tradition of opera as relevant social commentary, it tackles the subject of the life and death consequences of bigotry, suspicion, resentment, and hate of the foreigner, the other. Mexican-American composer Paul Davies and Argentine-American librettist Daniel Helfgot bring their personal lived experiences to the table in crafting this cautionary tale heightened by lyrical, descriptive music.This work is performed by the artists of the Aquilon Music Festival with the accompaniment of a chamber orchestra lead by renowned conductor Barbara Day Turner.This season, Aquilon will present its mainstage production at the excellent facilities at Newberg High School. It is a 550-seat auditorium that features state-of-the-art technical equipment, a lighting system, and an orchestra pit.CONTENT WARNING: due to the heavy nature of the subject matter, this performance is not suitable for children.
