Historian Susan Soderberg will discuss what led ten men to sign the Hungerford Resolves of June 11, 1774, launching what is now Montgomery County into an armed revolt against their colonizer and protector Great Britain, risking their property and their lives in a conflict many saw as fool-hearty and doomed. This presentation will delve into what spurred sensible peace-loving men to revolt, who the signers of the Resolves were; their existing historic houses; what they did in the Revolution; and how they contributed to the newly forming independent government of the state of Maryland and the new County called Montgomery.
