A community event in celebration of bread, in all its forms across the different cultures of the city and those that are involved in our project. There will be food, baking demonstrations, talks and the chance to get your hands on our very own Sheffield flour from the 2022 harvest! Come along, eat and taste plenty of bakes with curry to accompany.This will be a chance for everyone growing with The Sheffield Wheat Experiment to come together, to explore and celebrate the end product of our work in the soil. ~﻿Bring your own bakes:We invite you to contribute towards our bread sharing table (though don&#x27;t feel limited to bread if you have more of a sweet tooth, all baked items welcome). We would love to see an array of your favourite bakes! Be they family heirlooms, a new favourite that you’ve only just discovered, or a traditional bread baked by your community. These can be baked using whatever flour you usually use at home.If you would like to contribute, we would also love to hear what this bake means to you, perhaps there’s a specific memory or person you associate with it, or some cultural relevance. If you could write these things down on a piece of paper, along with any additional ingredients (especially allergens), and bring them along with your bake to display.~﻿Activity:S﻿o far confirmed we will have demos by a group of women and growers for SWE from Sheffield&#x27;s Roshni, in how to make flat breads such as chappatis and stuffed prathas with pickles for tasters.We will be joined by M﻿iranda Macdonald of I Said Bread who has been working closely with us in getting to know how the Sheffield Wheat flour behaves across a variety of bakes. You will be able to join Miranda in baking your own yeasted bubbly flat bread with our very own Sheffield flour.S﻿ophie Underdown Lester of Wild Combination will also be offering you the chance to play with the Sheffield flour, drawing from harvest folklore and symbolic baking traditions everyone is invited to make a wheat guardian in biscuit form! Creating a new ritual and made with Sheffield wheat, our totems can be enjoyed on the day or returned to a wheat patch as an offering to the grain spirits!M﻿ore TBC...~﻿Details:Our Bread will take place at Common Ground Community Centre (where some of the Sheffield Wheat is also growing!), Saturday 11th March 2-6pm. We are ticketing to two time slots to allow for more people to come through. Bring your families, children welcome!The venue is fully accessible, there is a ramp from the Woodstock Rd entrance and no steps in via the side door, with an accessible toilet off the hall entrance.There is usually enough on street parking on nearby streets without parking restrictions but please be considerate to the neighbours and minimise cars by using public transport, car sharing or coming on foot or by bike. Bikes can be chained to drain pipes outside.
