Description

Urban Sketchers is celebrating 10 years by inviting sketchers from around the world to attend ten on location workshops with an Urban Sketching official instructor in your city! You may choose to participate in one or more of the workshops at the following prospective locations in Orlando.

The 10 workshops will cover three themes:
1. Little Stories.
2. Medium Stories.
3. Great Stories.


Goals
1. Show stories from your city, one drawing at a time
2. Improve your drawing skills
3. Learn how to select, frame and design visual stories on a page
4. Learn how writing and drawing can work together to communicate more to your audience
5. Experience the advantages of group learning and seeing the many paths to success

Duration
10 classes of 3 hours each. Saturdays August 5 to October 28, 2017

Course schedule:
Little stories (Microcosm small objects)
August 5, 2017 3PM to 6PM Orlando Public Library (101 E Central Blvd, Orlando, FL 32801, Magnoloa Room, ask at front information desk for directions) Personal objects, things we use everyday.

Friday August 11, 2017 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM Ticonderoga Museum (Dixon Ticonderoga Company 615 Crescent Executive Court, Lake Mary, FL 32746-2120 Suite 120 on the first floor. I will have a sign), Memory and collections. Sketching related objects together.

Saturday August 19, 2017 6 PM to 9 PM Orange County Regional History Center (65 E Central Blvd, Orlando, FL 32801). Sketching models of historic Orlando buildings.

Medium stories (Building exteriors, interiors)
Saturday Septemberr 2, 2017 1PM to 4PM Convention of Celebrity Impersonators. (The Florida Hotel & Conference Center located at The Florida Mall at 1500 Sand Lake Road, Orlando, 32809). Sketch celebrities and have them sign the sketches. People in a room.

Saturday September 9, 2017 7PM to 10PM Orange County Regional History Center (65 E Central Blvd, Orlando, FL 32801). Recording History in a sketch. Sketching museum exhibits.

Saturday September 16, 2017 7PM to 10PM Ultimate Art Party. Downtown Tavares Town Square. Sketching a visual, performing and literary art event.

Great stories (People, creatives at work, reportage)
Saturday October 7, 2017 7PM to 10PM Zombietoberfest, Zombies wander Audibon Park. Meet at Redlight Redlight (2810 Corrine Dr, Orlando, FL 32803).

Saturday October 14, 2017 7PM to 10PM Disney Springs 1486 Buena Vista Dr, Orlando, FL 32830. Sketching night architecture. Meet on the lawn next to House of Blues.

Saturday October 21, 2017 Creative City Project, IMMERSIVE (Orange Avenue Downtown Orlando. Meet outside Jimmy John's 2 South Orange Avenue, Orlando, FL,) 1,000 artists and performers .

Saturday October 28, 2017 7PM to 10PM Skeletons: Museum of Osteology (8441 International Dr Suite 250, Orlando, FL 32819). Halloween themed. Sketch living skeletons.

Recomended Supply list:

  • Sketchbook: Stillman and Birn Alpha series hardbound.
  • .05 .08 micron pens
  • any pencil with an eraser
  • Watercolor travel set Windsor Newton.
  • Pentel Water Brush
  • small supply of spare water

Instructor info:
Thomas Thorspecken has been an official Urban Sketching instructor for 2 years. For 8 years, he has been documenting Arrts and Enterttinment throughout Central Florida with one sketch a day for his online news site, Analog Artist Digital World.He was an animation artist for Disney Feature Animation for 10 years and has taught courses at Full Sail University and Elite Animation Academy.
