Orientation & Navigation: The Music of Christian M.K. Martin
Alongside the music of Mozart, Mahler, Tsontakis, and Prockup, we introduce the music of the young classical contemporary composer Christian M.K. Martin in a concert of varying combinations performed by some of New York's Capital Region's finest chamber musicians. In addition to the works by Martin, the program includes:
- an opening appetizer by Mozart
- Gustav Mahler’s Piano Quartet in A minor, the intended first movement of a piano quartet that was apparently never completed. This is a rare performance of the only surviving piece of chamber music without voice to that is composed by Mahler
- selections from George Tsontakis’ KnickKnacks, an ongoing series of flirty miniatures for violin and viola
- and an uplifting piece by Capital Region native and film composer Kevin Prockup, Migration, Orientation & Navigation
The performers breathing life into Christian M.K. Martin's chamber music include:
Yvonne Chavez Hansbrough, piccolo + flute
Amarie King, flute
John Van Voris, flute and clarinet
Jonathan Greene, Eb + Bb clarinet
Dan Denette and Brian Rowe, clarinet
David Ciucevich, bass clarinet
Cathryn Jones and Ashley Armer, oboe
William Safford, bassoon
Patrice Malatestinic, French horn
Rose Chancler and Michael Clement, piano
Jessica Belflower, Susan Kowalski, and Paula Shaw, violin
Brittany Zellman, viola
David Bebe and Will Hayes, cello
Charles Seeley, double bass
