Coalition for African Americans in the Performing

In a state rich with arts history, operatic material is everywhere and has been found in Prince George’s County, MD.  In an effort to showcase local classical music composers, three original opera vignettes presented by regional opera composers including Scott Patterson, Steven M.    Allen, and duo Jasmine Barnes and Joshua     Banbury, are being presented by CAAPA. Each follow a different and original set of characters, plot, music, and libretto. The three 20-minute excerpt segments, sung by artists selected by the composers with instrumental accompaniment, are offered in a competitive showcase format followed by a Q&A moderated by Classical Music Journalist Patrick D. McCoy. One composer is then selected to perform their opera in full the following season. Program partner Prince George’s Arts and     Humanities Council.
