Overview

An opening and screening of the 2020 film by Najee Wilson, "Solitude: In a Landscape" featuring a sound ritual experience by Ben Brown.

"Solitude: In a Landscape" an exhibition by Najee Wilson is coming to The Naval Cemetery Landscape. This opening event for the installation will kick off with a screening of the film “Solitude: In a Landscape” which was shot in the Naval Cemetery Landscape exactly one year prior. The film will be projected on the boardwalk and scored live by musician Ben Brown of Hand and Temple.

“Solitude: In a Landscape” (54m) by Najee Wilson is a celebration of bucolic beauty within an urban oasis, yearning for comfort and the nostalgic pleasures of enjoying nature made in reaction to the chaos of 2020.

During the screening, visitors will be welcome to walk around the boardwalk and view the installation. Stills from the film have been printed on silk and hung from shepherd's hooks to catch the breeze and appear to float over the meadow. Wind chimes will provide an additional chorus of sound coming from the outer edges of the landscape.

This program is made possible with support from the New York City Artist Corps and Brooklyn Greenway Initiative. The installation will be on view August 27th- September 2nd.
