About this event

  • 3 hours

This past fall, the Oakland-based civic media organization El Tímpano set up a pop-up photo booth at Oakland’s Coliseum’s Swap Meet, an open air market affectionately known by many as “La Pulga.” Over the course of several weekends, El Tímpano’s team photographed and spoke to nearly 75 vendors and patrons who shared tales of celebration, camaraderie, heartbreak, and survival.

Join us at the Oakland Lowdown to celebrate the launch of a new exhibit featuring original instant photos and interviews from the project and meet the team who produced it. Light snacks and refreshments will be served.

Stop by anytime between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. to check out the exhibit and meet reporters and staff from El Tímpano. We'll have a short, informal program at 2 p.m. to discuss the project.

The exhibit will run from June 8th through August 2nd.
