On Saturday, May 10, 2025, Western Neighborhoods Project (WNP) is hosting another Open Reference session at Problem Library (1288 15th Avenue) from 2:00-5:00pm.
Stop by Problem Library’s beautiful Sunset District gallery and office on the second Saturday of every month to see selections from the WNP collection on display and peruse a stack of research materials related to whatever we’re into that month.
What will Executive Director Nicole Meldahl, as Historienne in Residence, be working on? An “Outside Lands San Francisco” podcast episode on a local eatery, perhaps, or an article on an overlooked local artist? Who can say?! But we can tell you she’ll be available to assist with all your local history needs over a convivial cup of tea, and you never know what other history nerds will be in the room.
We encourage you to bring sketchbooks, journals, and whatever you're working on right now, as well. You’ll also be able to chat with folks from Problem Library about their work supporting young Bay Area creatives, learn about their upcoming events, or peruse their library of hand-selected books on design, philosophy, history, art, and education.
We’re so excited to carve out space in the Sunset for community history, and are very grateful to Problem Library for hosting us. This is a casual, free event; RSVP is helpful but not necessary and donations are always appreciated. Thanks for being with us, History friends!

WNP, founded in 1999, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that preserves, interprets, and shares the diverse history and culture of San Francisco's west side. In support of this work, we launched the OpenSFHistory program in 2014 to digitize and make accessible online thousands of history San Francisco images that reach beyond the west side.
