Open Making Hours

The Alameda County Office of Education promotes student achievement and development, serving as liaison between the California Department of Education and the eighteen Alameda County public school districts. The Educational Services Division provides learning opportunities for both students and educators with over 300 programs, and is the primary provider of professional development and support services for TK-12 educators throughout our seven-county region (Region IV).ACOE’s Core Learning Department hosts professional development opportunities for districts and schools, collaborating with leaders on strategic planning to successfully implement the Common Core State Standards and assessment tests. Core Learning staff provide expertise in disciplinary content in English Language Arts/Literacy, Math, Science, Educational Technology, Early Learning, and English Language Development (ELD).

<H2>The Alameda County Office of Education welcomes educators, students and their families to our monthly Open Making Hours. </H2>
<P>Every first Wednesdays of the month the Meaning Maker Studio at ACOE opens its doors to makers of all levels and interests.</P>
<H4> What is Open Making?</H4>
<P>Open making hours is an open format monthly session featuring learning stations, demos, technology tours, and consultations centered around meaningfully using technology and making in academic settings. Students of any age can come and try hands on activities, learn how to use new tools and technologies and meet other makers. </P>
<P>You may bring your own projects and ideas and use our tools and resources to bring them to life, or come to tinker and explore something new. </P>
<H4>How much does it cost?</H4>
<P>This monthly gathering is free for all Alameda County educators, students and their families.  Donations of old toys, tools and electronic equipment (printers, fans, speakers, etc.) is welcome and appreciated. </P>
<H4>Is there any structure?</H4>
<P>We will be highlighting different technologies and resources every month, including special guests. Check this page for updates on the themes and monthly highlights. Otherwise, you are free to come and learn at your own pace, by yourself or with a team. We will assist you in identifying resources and getting you started on a project or idea.</P>
<H4>What could we learn at the Meaning Maker Studio?</H4>

<LI>Soldering and electronics</LI>
<LI>Engineering challenges</LI>
<LI>Prototyping with mixed materials</LI>
