Join us at PSU in kicking off Open Education Week with a celebration of the global open education movement!
Here at PSU, students, faculty, staff and open education enthusiasts alike will find opportunities to learn more about advocating for affordable course materials, applying open pedagogy practices, reviewing open textbooks, and more. Reserve a spot today!
This event is free, with reservation required. Reserve a general admission ticket for access to the event, including catered breakfast and lunch, the student panel, and Amy Hofer's address on the State of Statewide Open Education. To attend an afternoon or morning workshop, participants can reserve a ticket for that workshop during checkout.  Note that many sessions are concurrent - so check the indicated times! This event is open to the public, including all students, faculty, and staff of Oregon educational institutions!
Students and educators around the world advance open education for its focus on free and open learning materials and dynamic, collaborative teaching practices that transform classrooms into more equitable, authentic learning spaces.
Special Guest Speaker: Amy Hofer
Amy Hofer, Coordinator, Statewide Open Education Library Services, is the OER librarian for Oregon's colleges and universities; visit the Open Oregon Educational Resources website at <A HREF="http://openoregon.org/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">openoregon.org</A> to learn more. Amy is a coauthor of the book "Transforming Information Literacy Instruction: Threshold Concepts in Theory and Practice." By night she is a fiddler and square dance caller.

Open Textbook Library Workshop - SMSU 238  Amy Hofer, Coordinator, Statewide Open Education Library Services You are invited to attend the Open Textbook Review Workshop, where you can discover open textbooks in your field. After the workshop, PSU faculty will have the opportunity to write a short review of an open textbook from the Open Textbook Library and receive a $200 stipend. Your review will benefit other faculty considering open textbooks.

OER Authoring and Publishing - SMSU 328  Karen Bjork and Amy Stanforth, PSU Library Explore the evolving landscape of open textbook publishing, share your own experiences creating or using open educational resources (not limited to textbooks), and learn what support is available from PSU Library to create Open Educational Resources (OER) to increase affordability and accessibility for students. Join PSU Librarians Karen Bjork and Amy Stanforth.

Beyond the Cost: Making the Case for Open - SMSU 328  Lindsay Murphy, Course Support Specialist, Office of Academic Innovation, PSU We hear a lot about open educational resources as a cost saving mechanism, but OER and open pedagogy are also closely aligned to critical pedagogy, student success, and instructor engagement. Come to this interactive workshop and learn about the trends and research in OER and Open Pedagogy effects beyond cost savings for students. Bring your laptop or device of choice to fully participate!

Open Pedagogy as Social Justice - SMSU 327  Scott Robison and Jaime Wood, Office of Academic Innovation, PSU Much of the work students produce for professors is discarded at the end of each term. One of the tenets of Open Pedagogy is that students produce work that is valued and accessible to a larger audience. Some go as far as calling this approach to teaching and learning an act of social justice. In this interactive workshop, you will have the opportunity to reimagine your existing assignments through open pedagogy and equity lenses.

OER Experiences Faculty Panel - SMSU 238 A panel discussion on the Library’s Open Textbook Publishing Initiative, PDXOpen, and how open textbook creation has impacted each of the panelist. All have interesting stories of their OER paths. The Panel includes:
