<H2>About the Open Data Research Symposium</H2>
Open data has become firmly cemented in the policy mainstream. However, there remains a pressing need to dig deeper into the dynamics of how open data operates in practice, as well as to nurture theories that explain these dynamics. The 2016 <A HREF="http://odresearch.org" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Open Data Research Symposium (ODRS)</A>, an <A HREF="http://opendatacon.org" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">International Open Data Conference (IODC)</A> Pre-Event, offers open data researchers an opportunity to reflect critically on the findings of their completed research and to create cohesion within the research community on what the future challenges are likely to be in unlocking the potential of open data to promote social progress.

As open data becomes further entrenched, there is an ongoing need to delve deeper into the dynamics of open data practice. At the same time, there is a need to maintain a critical perspective and to develop empirically-tested theories on open data. Researchers across the world have been exploring various issues around the supply, use and impact of open data; the second Open Data Research Symposium offer researchers an opportunity to share completed research and to formulate the open data research agenda.
 
ODRS will feature presentations and workshops exploring topics including:

<LI>Open data intermediaries;</LI>
<LI>Open data and the business community;</LI>
<LI>Open data governance, policy and legistlation;</LI>
<LI>Open data for decision-making and problem-solving;</LI>
<LI>Open data research infrastructure; </LI>
<LI>Open data for developing economies; </LI>
<LI>Institutionalising open data; and</LI>
<LI>Risks, privacy and quality issues.</LI>
