Open Data Hackathon

Dr Ruairí O'Reilly is a lecturer in the Department of Computer Science at Cork Institute of Technology. He delivers modules on Knowledge Representation and Reasoning as part of the MSc in Artificial Intelligence and Interactive Data Visualisation as part of the BSc in Computer Systems. Hisresearch focuses on the development of platforms for the monitoring and analysis of data and their subsequent application to real-world problems.

<A HREF="https://www.cit.ie/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Cork Institute of Technology</A> in association with the <A HREF="https://data.gov.ie/pages/open-data-engagment-fund" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Open Data Engagement Fund</A> is hosting its inaugural Open Data Hackathon on Saturday the 18th of May 2019.
The Hackathon will bring together developers, product designers, and enthusiasts who have an interest in combining Data Analytics (DA) &amp; Artificial Intelligence (AI) with Open Data to construct a new product or service.
To start the day, you will have the opportunity to pitch your idea to everyone in the room, form a team of interested parties and get to work! If you have nothing to pitch, Don't Panic! Listen to the pitches, identify an idea you find interesting and would be enthusiastic to work on, go have a chat and see where you can contribute! 
The event will include mentoring from experts in the fields of Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence. At the end of the day, submissions will be judged by an expert industry panel, winners selected and prizes awarded!

<H2>FAQs</H2>
What do I have to bring with me? You will require a laptop and a charger to be able to work on your project. We will provide everything else.
Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event? An electronic or printed ticket is required for registration. 
What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event? There is onsite parking - come directly to the Melbourne building on Rossa Avenue. The main car park to the north of the building will be open. If travelling via public transport, the 205 Bus stops directly across the road from the Melbourne building.
What's the refund policy? You can get a full refund 7 days before the event. 
Who is the event targeting? Technically and non-Technically minded individuals alike assuming you are interested in the utilisation of open data for the greater good. It is an opportunity for you to meet individuals with similar ideas.
Are their limits on team sizes? The hackathon is team-based, any individual (or groups of individuals) are welcome to attend and pitch an idea, form a team and then work on the idea for the day (throughout the 3 hacking sessions). A team can be formed prior to the event if they so wish but we are intending on limiting team sizes to 2-5 people. Pre-formed teams would be required to pitch their idea and you would be encouraged to accept individuals interested in collaborating/contributing if under the size of 4/5. 
Using Open Data? The only restriction placed on the Hackathon is that it incorporates Open Data from the national data portal (<A HREF="https://data.gov.ie/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">data.gov.ie</A>) in some format, each team will specify the field to which the idea is being applied and the idea will be judged on its merit within the chosen field from our panel of judges.
