Open Data especially open government and research data, are tremendous resources that are yet largely untapped. Many individuals and organisations collect a broad range of different types of data in order to perform their tasks Government is particularly significant in this respect, both because of the quantity and centrality of the data it collects, but also because most of that government      data is public data by law, and therefore could be made open and made available. 
International Open Data Day is an annual event that promotes awareness and use of open data. It takes place  globally. Typical activities include talks, seminars, demonstrations, training or the announcement of open data releases or other milestones in open data. 
OpenCon Lagos community with sponsorship from (Wikimedia Owners of Wikipedia)  will be hosting an Open Data Day 2017 Lagos Conference. 
This event is designed to promote ways on how Open Data can be used to help the works of young professionals, youths and students in Nigeria as well as ways in which Open Data can contribute to National Development. Host of Professionals from Interswitch, Wikimedia, Creative commons and OpenCon Lagos Experts will be lead the conference,trainings and workshops.
This event will take place in Julius Berger Hall, University  of Lagos on 4th of July, 2017. Event start from 9am.
