Open bike data and maps are part of the solution towards more bike-friendly cities. The good thing is... you as a citizen can help improve these data and maps!

On July 21st, Open Knowledge Belgium is organising in partnership with the Brussels-Capital Region and OpenStreetMap Belgium, a full-day event of talks and workshops on how to create, edit and share open bike data and maps with OpenStreetMap. This event aims to gather all different actors in the fields of open bike data and maps and is absolutely open to everyone who wants to learn more about these topics.

Programme:

10:00-12:30: Several talks from citizens, experts, students, entrepreneurs, ... on open bike data & maps

• Student projects from open Summer of code on the integration and validation of the Brussels bike data in OpenStreetMap and the development of a mobile website for the Brussels cycling network.

• Koen Wynants - Creating a bottom-up bicycle circulation plan

• Marc Ducobu - Crowdsourcing a map to show the 'cyclability' of roads

• Christina Franken - Making OpenStreetMap and large datasets of people's activity more accessible to local governments at Mapbox

• Alex Kruse - Analysing and visualising bike sharing usage in Hamburg

13:30-17:00: Workshops on how to add and edit bike data in OpenStreetMap + build your own maps. Please bring your own computer and feel free to come up with your own questions. We'll help you as much as we can.

Open Summer of Code is a 4-week programme in July during which development, design, business and communication students transform open innovation projects into powerful real-world services.

During this year's edition of open Summer of code, 2 student teams will be working for the Brussels-Capital Region on the integration and validation of open bike data in OpenStreetMap and the development of a mobile website for the Brussels cycling network. Both projects will also be presented on July 21st. See you then!
