On the Same Page: Virtual Write Night
Event Information
About this Event
Welcome to Free Minds On the Same Page: Virtual Write Night, a powerful experience of mutual support, inspiration, and connection!
On January 27, at 7:00 PM, we will gather as a community to hear a live presentation and Q&A with Free Minds Book Club staff and Poet Ambassadors. This will be followed by reading and responding to the poems together on a digital platform called Miro. All you will need is a computer or tablet and an internet connection. If using your phone for this event, we recommend downloading the Miro mobile app.
Because DC does not have a state prison, Free Minds members are incarcerated in over 100 federal prisons across the country. Due to COVID-19, they have been on lockdown since March (unable to leave their cells except for brief periods). It is crucial that we listen to their voices and show them there is a community ready to support them.
You will be able to write (and draw) words of connection, hope, and encouragement directly onto poems and we will then mail each poet their poems on pages filled with your colorful, positive responses.
As Free Minds member Derrick wrote after receiving his poems filled with feedback, "I appreciate all the support...And also understanding. Hearing that some of my writing inspires people just blows my mind. I can’t even put it in words the way hearing that makes me feel...Thanks Free Minds, y’all give me something to look forward to.”
Thank you for taking a stand for racial justice.
Spread the word and bring friends and colleagues.
See you "On The Same Page."
