About this event
‘Bite-sized’ Second Saturday studio tours kick off March 8 in Mira Monte
A “bite-sized” program of studio tours known as Second Saturday begins March 8 with eleven Ojai Studio Artists (OSA) in Mira Monte opening their private workspaces, kicking off a program that continues every month through July.
The March event includes a stellar roster of studios, including two artists making their debut as OSA members: Richard Negri, whose evocative portraits recall Modigliani and come complete with evocative bits of prose, and Stephanie Hubbard, whose gorgeous abstracts explore hidden complexities and fields of space.
Unlike OSA’s main October event, in which all 70+ OSA artists open their studios in a single weekend, Second Saturdays focus on a specific neighborhood, offering visitors a smaller selection of studios to visit.
“Second Saturdays is a relaxed experience giving people a chance to interact with local artists,” says OSA President Brian Berman. “You can take your time and really appreciate the work and the places where this spectacular art is made.”
The March 8 kickoff event, like all Second Saturdays, is entirely free - check the website www.ojaistudioartists.org for a list of participating artists and samples of each artist’s work, which can be helpful in planning a “choose-your-own adventure” tour.
The series continues on April 12 with fifteen artists in Oak View and the West End, this year welcoming new member Lulu Sherman, creator of heartfelt, hyper-realistic charcoal and graphite portraits.
The May 10 event includes eighteen artists on the East End and Upper Ojai, including news member Douglas Teiger, creator of bold, striking abstract oils that reflect his deep meditative practice and Rebecca Odes, whose layered, sculptural works reflect the light and space of the Ojai Valley.
June 14 features fifteen artists in and around the downtown area, with the addition of four new OSA members: mosaic master Yolanda Bergman, innovative ceramicist Bhagvati Khalsa, ash-and-char wonder worker Tom Pazderka, and multimedia dynamo Kim Smith. The program concludes on July 12 with fifteen artists in the Arbolada and Meiners Oaks,
