Event description
ʻOhana Learning Time - 3 Sessions, 3 Topics by 3 Mom-Educators

About this event

Spend quality time with your keiki by participating in 3 one hour sessions exploring 3 incredible topics on writing haiku, keiki data makers, & the artistry of trees facilitated by 3 mom-educators!

Learn more about our Sessions!

Session #1: Friday July 16 @ 4:30-5:30pm: Ahupuaʻa Reflections + Haiku Writing with Aunty Alyssa (author of Emma's Adventure)

Details: Explore writing together as an 'ohana! Families will learn about the basic structure of the ahupua'a (Hawaiian sustainable land system) and how to use nature to inspire their writing. You will also learn about the haiku (Japanese method of short poetry) and create a final poem inspired by the place you live in and/or love.

Session #2: Saturday July 17 @ 9-10am: Sticker Math + Keiki Data Makers with Aunty Marion (owner of Kilo Books Hawaiʻi)

Details: Everyday is an opportunity to learn math! We will explore the concept of everyday mathematics which includes understanding and evaluating rain data collected in Nuʻuanu in 2019 and 2020. During our session, students will get a hands on introduction to sticker math and how to develop the inner keiki data maker!

Session #3: Saturday July 18 @ 9am-10am: The Artistry of Trees with Aunty Dana (owner of Oʻahu Bright Lab)

Details: Art should be fun and stimulate mind, body, and soul! Oahu Bright Lab believes in the “process” of art and that success and failure are equally important for growth and development. During our time together we will create unique “pop-up” tree art. We hope this technique serves as a catalyst for future art projects with you and your ‘ohana.
