A data science hackathon using a real world data set. Learn new skills, network, and "hack" your way through the data for fun and prizes.

Plus, any cancellations will result in tickets opening up.This is the first Orange Country R Users Group (<a href="https://ocrug.org/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">OCRUG</a>) data science hackathon. During this event, we will be exploring an interesting data set, starting from the raw data all the way through to a final "end product" (e.g. a data visualization, an interesting data insight, a predictive model, etc.).This event is open to all experience levels, from the complete beginner to the highly experienced. Participants will work in teams to "hack" through the data and will present their work at the end of the event for prizes including books, conference tickets (<a href="https://www.datasciencego.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">DataScienceGo</a>), a year long memberships to <a href="https://www.datacamp.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">DataCamp.com</a> and <a href="https://superdatascience.com" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">SuperDataScience.com</a>, and more. You are free to create your own team, or we will assist in team creation if you do not have one. This is a great way to network, share, and learn from others.The main goal of the hackathon is to promote team work and foster education and learning in a welcoming environment. Though teams will competing to present their best work at the end of the event for prizes, communication and providing assistance across teams is highly encouraged. We will provide in-person training during the hackathon and online training prior to the event.Participants will need to bring their own computers during the event but we will also be providing cloud-based computing credits (<a href="https://github.com/ocrug/hackathon-2019/blob/master/AWS_credits.md" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">AWS credits</a>) to access additional computing resources. This is a great way to expand your experience and use industry class resources to work on large data sets. For example, you might choose to use a big EC2 instance or Elastic Map Reduce (EMR) with Spark or Hadoop.Everyone who registers by 2019-04-18 will be given free 30-days of access to <a href="https://www.datacamp.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">DataCamp.com</a>. This is a great site that will help prepare you for the event and improve your R and Data Science skills. You will have access to a huge number of courses on R, Python, SQL, Spark, Git, Shell and spreadsheets.Everyone that participates will also get a $100 discount of <a href="https://superdatascience.com" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">SuperDataScience.com</a>'s 1-year membership. Further information will be provided prior to the event. Your ticket includes, meals, snacks and drinks during the event.
