A Sogetsu Ikebana class with Stephan Eberhagen

Join us at the Miami Beach Botanical Garden for a hands-on Sogetsu Ikebana class with Sensei Stephan Eberhagen (for further information please go to www.ikebanainmiami.com).

The class (4-6 students per class; 1.5 h) provides an engaging and interactive way to explore the beauty of Sogetsu Ikebana while creating a unique floral arrangement. It is designed for students of all levels as an opportunity to experience the fundamental principles of Ikebana in a relaxed and inspiring setting.

We are offering two sessions on Saturday, May 30. Please choose one session or the other, not both! Session 1 is for beginners and Session 2 is for beginners and advanced students (e.g. students that have completed at least one introductory-level class).

Event Schedule:

Check-in & Setup (5 min)

Participants arrive and receive their materials.

Brief orientation and workspace setup.


Presentation – History & Philosophy of Sogetsu Ikebana (15 min)

Introduction to Ikebana and the Sogetsu school.

Presentation of 7 harmony principles of Sogetsu Ikebana.


“Get Focused” – Briefing on Basic Arrangement (15 min)

Explanation of fundamental structure and placement techniques.

Demonstration of a basic arrangement.


“Get Creative” – Hands-on Arrangement (45 min)

Participants create their own Ikebana piece.

General guidance and individual advice provided.


“Let’s Talk” – Review & Discussion (10 min)

Participants share their arrangements.

Clear the area.


Flowers and greens will be provided. Participants will need to bring a flat container (Suiban) with 8-10” diameter and 2-3″ height, flower pin holder (Kenzan) with at least 3″ diameter, and ikebana flower scissors (Hasami). You may bring your own or order a kit at least three weeks before class begins.

Session 1: 11:00 am - 12:30 pm - beginners

Session 2: 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm - beginners and advanced students
