<H2>Choreographers Marielis Garcia and Nicole von Arx seek to question the neutrality of, or lack thereof, bodies in space.</H2>
 
To remain objective invites a sense of neutrality - can bodies of gender, color, or experience ever be neutral? Perhaps we do not want them to be.
Objective Bodies is a shared evening of choreography by Swiss artist Nicole von Arx and New York artist Marielis Garcia. Each artist will premiere two different dance works revolving around the social implications that directly affect the way we attend to, take notice of and develop within our own bodies.
Inspired to review the implicit power of gender and the ways biopower effect the way we experience various bodies in motion; this shared evening is an exploration of our bodily experience.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Marielis Garcia, a native New Yorker, has been a dance performance artist for over 10 years, and is director of MG DanceArts. She is currently a member of the Brian Brooks Moving Company and Helen Simoneau Danse. Garcia has had the privilege to perform and tour with Steps Repertory Ensemble (NY), Peter Kyle Dance (NY), iKapa (Cape Town), and Douglas Dunn and Dancers (NY), among others. She received her BFA in dance from Marymount Manhattan College, and is currently pursuing an MFA in Digital and Interdisciplinary Art Practice. Her work has been presented by Appalachian State University, Salem College, Howard Community College, University of North Carolina Greensboro and Bard College at Simon’s Rock. In 2014, La MaMa theater awarded Garcia with a three-week residency, supporting and presenting a new work in Spoleto, Italy, and in 2017 she was a University of North Carolina School of the Arts Choreographic Fellow.  She is a 2017, 2018 and 2019 Lower Manhattan Cultural Council grant recipient. Marielis is co-director of STUFFED: Dinner and Dance, a free quarterly community event that serves a warm meal and dance performance. Born in England and raised in Switzerland, Nicole von Arx is a freelance dancer and choreographer based between Brooklyn and Geneva (Switzerland). She graduated in 2011 from The Alvin Ailey School in New York City under the direction of Denise Jefferson. She also trained at the San Francisco Conservatory of Dance, Springboard Danse Montréal 2011&amp; 2015, Dance Area and Jacob's Pillow 2010 Contemporary Program. As a performer, Nicole was a soloist at the Royal Opera House in London &amp; Chicago Lyric Opera in the critically acclaimed opera Tannhäuser directed by Tim Albery and choreographed by Jasmin Vardimon. She has also worked for and toured with Carte Blanche (The Norwegian National Company of Contemporary Dance) under the directorship of Bruno Heynderickx. From 2015-2018, She was a company member at Company XIV for the productions of Nutcracker Rouge, La Fête, Paris, and dance captain for the opera Orpheus &amp; Eurydice. In 2013, she participated in The 6th Copenhagen International Choreography Competition while dancing for the choreographer Bryan Arias winning 1st place and Audience Choice Award. Since 2014, she has been a close collaborator, choreographer assistant, and performer for Loni Landon Dance Projects. She has worked with Loni on numerous creations such as Fast Love for the Joyce Theatre, And Then There Was One commissioned by The Juilliard School, DOUBLING, and Wait Nearby commissioned by the Keigwin + Company. Nicole most recently joined the cast of Romeo Castellucci’s Democracy in America for performances at Montclair University. As a choreographer, Nicole was invited to present her work internationally at the Bâtiment des Forces Motrices, TanzFest Winterthur 2018, La Fête de la Musique on the stage of l’ADC, and the Flux Laboratory in Switzerland, and at Reykjavík Culture Night in Iceland. In New York, her choreography appeared at the Museum of Moving Image, CPR, Judson Church, Sam Houston State University, The Wild Project, The 14th Street Y/YCabaret, the Ailey Citigroup Theatre and Gowanus Arts. In 2017, she was one of the three emerging choreographers commissioned to create a new 30min work for The Dance Gallery Festival Level UP program. In 2011 and 2015, she had the pleasure to create solo works on students from The Ailey School and SUNY Purchase. Nicole is currently creating and performing in New York City and Switzerland under the name <A HREF="http://www.nvonarx.com/about" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">NVA &amp; Guests</A>.
