Object Permanence, by Mack Brim, explores the connections between what we perceive and what exists beyond our sight. Brim’s exhibit invites you to question the boundaries between object and subject. What remains when the familiar slips out of view? With an unseen presence that lingers just beyond reach, the work challenges our understanding of reality. Mack Brim: “I am always exploring the line of when the subject becomes an object. Specifically, when women’s bodies are the subject of art, when is she a subject, and when does she become an object? And when you are depicting women and women’s bodies, they are always going to become objects to certain viewers.”

About the Artist: Inspired by the modern feminine experience, Mack Brim creates figurative oil paintings that explore our personal identities as women. Featuring both portrait and still life works, there is a deep connection between personhood and object. Mack is particularly interested in the performance of femininity in this current cultural landscape. The stories of the women in her life inspire these narratives that have an intimate resonance. Mack Brim lives and works in Oklahoma City. Her work has been exhibited in Dallas, Los Angeles, New York, Oklahoma City and Philadelphia, with paintings in collections internationally.
