About this event
Call to Artists! Object Afterlife Art Challenge
Join us for our 15th annual Object Afterlife Art Challenge, a unique and creative opportunity for artists to brave a new approach to their creative process while raising awareness of environmental issues of waste reduction and conservation. In an effort to bridge the worlds of fine art and scrap art, we challenge artists to create thought-provoking, intentional works with scrap materials provided by MECCA. This challenge encourages artists to work outside their usual mediums or to incorporate scrap materials into their art. Artists will be given a mystery bag of materials and three months to create their submission.
An artist can use all or part of the objects given and is free to incorporate other materials and mediums as well. Changing or swapping given materials is not allowed.
Important Dates:
- Artist Sign up deadline- Wednesday, June 5th- midnight, or when we reach 85 applicants
- Art Pick up- Starts June 11th, at MECCA, 11 am. All materials are in brown paper bags.
- Art Drop-Off- September September 7th-14 during MECCA's Open days/hours.
- Art Opening and Reception- Friday, October 4th, 5:30-8 pm
Object Afterlife elevates the realm of re-use art, engages the local art community, inspires the creative reuse of unwanted materials, and raises awareness of our universal need to re-imagine the objects around us in a fun and creative way. Artists of all interests and mediums are welcome to participate. Limited to 85 artists
- Entry fee is $25. Participating artists will be given $15 of MECCA money to spend in our shop.
- We will close the call to artists when we reach 85 artists (We typically sell out fast!)
- Exhibit opens Friday, October 4th during First Friday ArtWalk
