The Oakland Civic Orchestra, conducted by Artistic Director Martha Stoddard, presents its “Luminosity” concert on Sunday, May 5, at 4:00 pm, at Lake Merritt United Methodist Church, 1330 Lakeshore Avenue, in Oakland.

The concert features the radiant young flutist and composer Cadence Liu, performing her new Concerto for Flute and Orchestra, bookended by Vaughan Williams’ beloved Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis, and the brilliant Divertimento from Le Baiser de la fée (The Fairy’s Kiss), by Igor Stravinsky. Also on the program is the seldom heard and charming Music for Symphony Orchestra by Yasushi Akutagawa..

The concert will run for approx 90 minutes with a 15-minute intermission.

Purchasing tickets in advance is recommended. Walkup tickets will be available on a first come/first served basis until room capacity is reached. Payment can be made by credit card, debit card or PayPal.

We encourage masking, and recommend audience members be both vaccinated and boosted. If you feel unwell, please stay home and take care of yourself.

Lake Merritt is a popular destination, so please allow ample time for parking, carpooling, or walking from Lake Merritt BART station in Oakland. Carpooling, ride sharing, and public transportation are all encouraged. Parking meters at Lake Merritt are in effect from noon to 8pm on Sundays. Please, remember not to leave any valuables in your car.
