Event description

Description

Join NYCoRE this fall---

We will be holding two study groups that will meet once a month, on Fridays, for three months:

  • October 19th,

  • November 16th and

  • December 14th

We ask that all participants commit to all three sessions and commit to upholding our points of unity (which can be found on our website).

These sessions are FREE, however we are asking for Food Donations upon registration.

Inspired by our reading group that happened last spring we would like to invite educators to continue to explore Adrienne Marie Brown's Emergent Strategies.

STUDY GROUP: The Right Work: Emergent Strategies in Our Schools

  • The purpose of this study group is to meet three times to bring Emergent Strategies to learning communities in the classroom as well as among adult learners. The hope is that this is for folks who are interested in engaging with applying Emergent Strategies to the live classroom. Folks are invited to bring problems of practice in the classroom and/or in their professional learning communities to discuss. While we will be reading (or re-reading) the book together, the focus of this group will be on creating the Emergent Strategies classrooms and schools that we want to embody and live on a day-to-day basis.

  • Cap: 15

In many conversations with members it has become clear that there is a need to engage with the arts and create a space where we are ideating.

STUDY GROUP: NYCORE-CREATES! opens up a space for artists / creatives / educators within NYCORE that is rooted in collaboration, social justice, and imagination.

  • Join us in creating this space as one where we can imagine ways of molding change together and act on our envisioning as a collective of artists. This space will emerge in a series of workshops that will encompass discussions of our artistic practices as artists / educators, while also planning for an action rooted in creating socially engaged projects. Possibilities include organizing an arts-based social justice block party, submitting proposals to open calls like Studio in a Park, Queens Museum, Art In Odd Places, and/or creating art interventions.

  • Session 1: Intro Chatting & Brainstorm / Resources

  • Session 2: Sharing our artistic / creative practices, and

  • Session 3: Select/plan an action
