About this event

  • 3 hours

Do you care about food equity and food justice? Social justice?

Do you believe healthy eating is a civil right - that everyone no matter where they live should have affordable, nearby healthy fresh fruits and vegetables?

Then join NYC public students as they march to City Hall - across the Brooklyn Bridge - to bring their letters and petitions, asking the NYC Council and Mayor Adams to fund student and community run farm stands in the city's food deserts - meaning low-income neighborhoods of color in Brooklyn, Harlem, Bronx and other areas.

Meet at Brooklyn Borough Hall at 10 am. Bring a sign or dress up as a fruit or vegetable or both; or make signs with the youth at the steps.

March starts about 10:30-11a.

Meet with NYC officials and news conference at City Hall Park - 11:30-12:30...

Seeds in the Middle, named by 4th graders in Crown Heights, empower students, schools and their communities to create healthy places to live and learn. We teach how to grow gardens, market and cook fresh, get fit, engage in the arts. We believe youth are the change-makers and we support teachers in the classroom so they can help students achieve. Our partners come from all walks of life. We transform gray into green, desperation into inspiration.

Check out our Crown Heights Youth Soccer, too,   a fun low-cost program for kids age 3-14, run by the not for profit, Seeds in the Middle. Every season, we offer free open field days before we start the season.  We also host Soccer for Harmony soccer tournaments for adults and youth to build community and promote social change through soccer.
