NVBAs Fall Bee: Learning with Landi

Northern Virginia Beekeepers Association in collaboration with the Sustainable Honeybee Program, Inc. is pleased to offer our 2016 Fall Bee.
A morning of presentations from and discussion with two distinguished EAS Master beekeepers, New Jersey’s Landi Simone and Northern Virginia’s Billy Davis with the staff of SHP.

Landi, owner of Gooserock Farm, a small beekeeping business in New Jersey, is well known throughout the beekeeping community. The presentations from Landi will include:

<LI>Reading the Frames (A good beekeeper is a good detective)</LI>
<LI>Timing It (Managing your Bees for Optimal Health AND Maximum Honey Production)</LI>
</UL>
Billy and the staff of Sustainable Honeybee Program will offer a video tour of the SHP bee yard and discussion around the use of techniques, quiet boxes, quiet cloths and hive inspection best practices developed by SHP to keep the beekeeper and the bees calm. Two SHP Quiet Boxes will be offered in a raffle at the event with the proceeds going to SHP.
At the conclusion of the event there will be a special presentation.
=== About Landi Simone ===
Landi Simone is a small-scale commercial beekeeper in northern New Jersey, owner of Gooserock Farm in Montville, Morris County. She manages about 100+ colonies of bees, producing prize-winning premium varietal honeys, artisan honey spreads, beeswax cosmetics and handmade beeswax soaps. 
A familiar figure at EAS, Landi is a certified Master Beekeeper since 2004 and currently serves as both the Master Beekeeper Director and the Chair of the Certification Committee. She has given numerous talks and workshops at EAS over the years and teaches an annual short course in beekeeping in New Jersey. Landi is an active member of the NJBA, and has held several offices in that organization. 
A retired consulting engineer with degrees from Columbia and Rutgers, Landi finds her second career in apiculture every bit as challenging as engineering and a lot more fun.
=== About Billy Davis ===
Billy Davis is an EAS Master Beekeeper, recipient of Virginia’s Langstroth Award for Excellence, and previously the EAS Director from Virginia.  He is now working to develop a regional Queen Project, Virginia based and sanctioned by the Loudoun Beekeepers Association and the Virginia Beekeepers Association.  Sixteen years ago Billy developed "Practical Beekeeping for Beginners", a formal nine week class, which now starts over 600 new beekeepers a year in northern Virginia.
Billy is the CEO and Chairman of the Sustainable Honeybee Program, Inc. based in Purcellville, VA.
