This professional development session focuses on strengthening educators’ understanding of conceptual understanding and mathematical discourse as essential components of numeracy development. Participants will explore how conceptual understanding helps students make meaningful connections between mathematical ideas, apply flexible problem-solving strategies, and develop deeper retention of concepts. Educators will also examine the role of mathematical discourse in supporting students’ ability to communicate reasoning, justify solutions, and collaboratively construct understanding through speaking, writing, visuals, and discussion.
