Bayprofs has been committed to safe, quality firearms training for more than 25 years. We estimate  that during that time we have trained more than two thousand people.As a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation our focus is providing excellent training and not financial gain. Instructors are un-paid volunteers who are NRA certified instructors with extensive, personal experience including teaching shooting, training and/or competition.  It’s one way we give back to the community.We limit class size to assure individual attention. With four or more instructors in each class we can achieve a student-to-instructor ratio of better than 2 to 1. In each class our students will have the benefit of instructors having an aggregate of around 100 or more years of experience with firearms.

Coyote Point Rifle & Pistol Club

The goal of this program is to develop instructors to teach NRA Basic Firearm Training Courses according to the lesson plans and training standards of the National Rifle Association.During the NRA Instructor Training Course, you will receive from your Training Counselor the NRA Trainer’s Guide, the appropriate NRA Instructor Candidate Packet which includes the course outlines and lesson plans for the disciplines you wish to teach, the appropriate NRA basic course student packet which includes the handbook, certificates, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure and other materials used in NRA basic courses.This program is not designed to prepare you to teach other firearm training courses (such as law enforcement, security, or hunter safety courses), nor to prepare you to develop firearm training courses of your own.The NRA Training Counselor who conducts your course will make a recommendation to NRA concerning your certification based on an evaluation of your knowledge, skills, and attitude. You will be asked to demonstrate your organizational and teaching skills through participation in several practical exercises during the course of your training. You will also be asked to complete an instructor certification examination. A minimum score of 90 percent is required for certified instructor applicants (85 percent for assistant and apprentice instructor applicants). However, attendance at the course, or a passing grade on the examination, does not guarantee that you will receive the recommendation of the NRA Training Counselor. This is not an entry level course. This course is being run under a specific method that requires the students to already be certified as an NRA instructor in at least one discipline. This method has an extensive scored qualification with Muzzleloading Rifles, Pistols, and Shotguns, but does not require the basic class. You do not need to attend the second day of qualification for each platform if you are able to qualify on the first day. Each day give at most 2 scored attempts at the qualification. If you have documentation of already completing Basic Instructor Training within 2 years of the date of class then you could be exempt from that day. Contact us at bayprofs - at - bayprofs - dot - org for details if this is the case for you. We need evidence of this exemption. All students will need to attend the last day of the class for the teachbacks.Days 1 &amp; 2 : Saturday, Sunday April 6,7. Each day starts at 10am - Coyote Point Rifle and Pistol Club, 1601 Coyote Point Drive San Mateo, CA 94401-1002Starts at 10am until 6pm - Muzzleloading rifle days. We will be demonstrating how to use muzzleloding rifles in the morning of the first day, then students will have time to practice before attempting the course of fire. Students will be required to clean the rifles several times during the day.Day 3 &amp; 4: Saturday, Sunday April 13, 14. Each day starts at 10am - United Sportsmen Incorporated, 4700 Evora Rd, Concord, CA 94520Note that this weekend is at a different location! See site-specific note at the end for this day. Starts at 10am until 6pm - Muzzleloading shotgun days. We will be demonstrating how to use muzzleloding shotguns in the morning of the first day, then students will have time to pattern them, then practice on clays before attempting the course of fire. Students will be required to clean the shotguns several times during the day. Days 5 &amp; 6: Saturday, Sunday April 20, 21. Each day starts at 10am - Coyote Point Rifle and Pistol Club, 1601 Coyote Point Drive San Mateo, CA 94401-1002Starts at 10am until 6pm - Muzzleloading pistol days. We will be demonstrating how to use muzzleloding pistols in the morning of the first day, then students will have time to practice before attempting the course of fire. Students will be required to clean the pistols several times during the day. Days 7: Saturday May 4. Starts at 10am - Coyote Point Rifle and Pistol Club, 1601 Coyote Point Drive San Mateo, CA 94401-1002 Basic Instructor Training: This day covers how to run a class from a financial, legal, and ethical standpoint, NRA Policies and Procedures, and the handling portion of the evaluation. Basic Instructor Training is required of any instructor candidate that does not have proof that this has been completed in the two years prior to this date.Day 8: Sunday May 5. Starting at 10am - Coyote Point Rifle and Pistol Club, 1601 Coyote Point Drive San Mateo, CA 94401-1002Muzzleloading Instructor class day: This day has the specifics on what is needed to run a NRA Muzzleloading student course. There will be multiple in-class evaluations during the day where instructor candidates demonstrate their ability to teach the material to other instructor candidates. There will be a written exam of the material on this day which must be passed in order to be recommended into the instructor program.The "package" price is for all days of training.Expect an email from us about 2 weeks before the class with information and homework for the class.Expectations of students in order to pass:<ul><li>You must participate in the entire course</li><li>You must display the knowledge, skills, and attitude as required in the NRA national curriculum in order to be a firearms instructor</li><li>You must pass all marksmanship, firearms handling, written, and in class examinations </li></ul>Students are required to bring the following materials to class:<ul><li>You will need to fill out and return the pre-class questionnaire. This document will be emailed to you about 2 weeks before class. Responsibly bringing the form to class or returning it by email with your answers are a part of your evaluation for the class, so please take it seriously.</li><li>Electronic hearing protection. You must be able to understand instructions on the range while other people are firing.</li><li>Eye protection</li><li>Range appropriate clothing</li><li>Pens/Pencil/paper for notes, filling out forms, and taking the test</li><li>Please bring a packed lunch each day. We won't have time to go off-site for lunch. We will provide all needed firearms and components for this class. If you have your own Muzzleloaders then you are welcome to bring them. You will likely score better on the qualification with your own firearms than with ours. Our insurance requires that if you use our firearm then you must use our components. If you use your firearm then you must bring your own components. We can not mix the ownership of firearms and components. If you bring your firearm then also bring the user manual for it. We are required to have you look up the manufacturer's reccomended loads for each firearm. This is much easier to do if you bring the instructions. All firearms must be transported in a case per range policy. For the 2 days at Concord- Ensure you have filled out the waiver for United Sportsman on their website before the day of class. This will save significant time on the day of class. Please use exactly the same name you used when registering for the class on their waiver. Please complete both the Rifle and Pistol waiver and the Trap and Skeet Wavier. Watching the video will help with the quiz. It is recommended, however, as the NRA is the curriculum standards body for this material.
