This is the course that will allow you to teach Personal Protection Inside the Home, helping your students reduce the risk of becoming a victim of violent crime in their home, and it is the required course to be able to meet the teaching requirements for the Michigan CPL class. You will need to have taken BIT (Basic Instructor Training) in the past two years and be an NRA Certified Pistol Instructor to attend this course. Should you need to obtain these requirements, please message for details on how to do so in time to attend this course.


Required Equipment:
-Functioning pistol
-At least 100 rounds of appropriate factory ammunition (no reloads allowed)
-Eye and ear protection (electronic preferred)
-At least 2 functional magazines
-Comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing and shoes; ball cap/ sunscreen/ bug spray recommended
-Packed lunch (snacks and drinks provided throughout)


The class fee is $250. Message with questions and for details of the class and how to reserve your seat. Payment in full must be received BY June 7th to secure your seat and allow for the ordering of course materials.

Students will learn basic defensive shooting skills, strategies for home safety and responding to a violent confrontation, firearms and the law, how to choose a handgun for self-defense, and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics of Personal Protection In The Home handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, the Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, and course completion certificate.

Prerequisite: This course is for law-abiding adult citizens, as defined by applicable federal, state, or local law, and experienced shooters (shooters able to show mastery of the basic skills of safe gun handling, shooting a group, zeroing the firearm, and cleaning the firearm). Prospective participants can demonstrate that they have the requisite knowledge, skills, and attitudes by producing an NRA Basic Pistol Course Certificate, NRA FIRST Steps Course Certificate, NRA pistol competitive shooting qualification card, military DD 214 with pistol qualification, or passing the Pre-Course Assessment.
