Location:  Milton Classroom and Rifle Range

Description of the course:  NRA Basic Rifle is designed to teach the basic knowledge, skills and attitude necessary for the safe use of a rifle in target shooting.

The NRA Basic Rifle Course is broken down into five lessons. Course length will vary. Students will be given a break for lunch. (Bring you own lunch)

  • Lesson I: Rifle Knowledge and Safe Gun Handling
  • Lesson II: Ammunition Knowledge and the Fundamentals of Rifle Shooting
  • Lesson III: Firing the First Shots
  • Lesson IV: Scoring Targets, and Selecting and Maintaining Your Rifle
  • Lesson V: Course Review and Examination 

Full Description: This class is 6 to 8 hours long and includes classroom instruction and range time learning to shoot rifles. Students learn NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; rifle parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting from the bench rest and sitting positions; cleaning, and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the Basics of Rifle Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, take a Basics of Rifle Shooting Student Examination and receive a class completion certificate along with an orientation of range safety rules.

 

Will the student receive a certificate of completion:   YES - The NRA Basic Rifle certificate is earned and given to the student upon successful completion of the classroom instruction section along with passing the basics of rifle shooting written examination and live fire range training practical sessions.

Minimum number of students to hold the class:   2

Cost per student: $125

Any prerequisites to attend the training:   Must be at least 18 years old. Under 18 MUST have written consent from Parents or Legal Guardian.

Things a student must bring to the training:

A safe, functioning and reliable rifle such as a 22lr or 9mm carbine rifles are preferred.

50 rounds of ammunition (No reloads)

Range-appropriate clothing; long pants, a comfortable shirt, and athletic shoes. No open toed shoes, no low-cut clothing.

Clear wrap-around ballistic eye protection

Hearing protection (electronic recommended)

Water & snacks

Notebook with pen/pencil

A positive attitude and a willingness to learn all you can to be a responsible handgun owner

Anything a student should do in preparation for the training:     Talk to a friend/family member about taking the class with you. It is always fun to have someone you know in class.
